Over the years, I’ve had the luck of being able to meet, know, and work with some of the best people in the hand-built bicycle industry. It’s very cool being able to talk with peers about how they see the bicycle and what they want to do with it. I hope to be able to do this for a lot longer.
Recently, one of my favorite builders (seriously) and a good friend Drew Guldalian of Engin Bicycles came to me in need of a dropout design. Drew’s bikes are amazing creations. Both solid rideable bikes and works of jewlry art.
These are designed as low mount disc dropouts, 6/4 Titanium, IS Disc mount (140-203mm), and utilizing Shimano Direct Mount derailleurs. The hanger is replaceable and available with a standard derailleur mount for people that insist on using crappy SRAM parts.
The parts were cut, once again, by Richard DeFrancisco at Cantabrigian Mechanics. Richard is fast becoming THE ‘go to’ guy for awesome bike stuff. It’s always great to work with him.
Below is a picture of the steel ‘trial’ dropouts being fit into a frame just hours after they arrived to the shop. Not that the fit-up will need work as these are steel tapered stays rather than the straight titanium stays for which the dropouts were designed. They are going to be so cool.
