A couple of weeks back I went on a trip to Washington, DC. I took a ton of photos. I’ll make an attempt to put some up in the next few posts.
This post is about the library. Thomas Jefferson’s library and what became the Library of Congress. This place is totally insane. From Gutenberg Bibles to Archie comics. This place has it all.
The building at the heart of the three building set is the ornate old building that the Lincoln administration had done. To say the building is a work of art is not hyperbole or exaggeration.
The heart of the building, for me, is Jefferson’s personal library that began the collection. Standing in a room of book that one of the greatest Americans used to build our country is humbling. Seeing what he read, his google. I can’t rise to that. Books on painting by Leonardo, physics by Newton, even his compatriot Franklin on his shelves. Astounding.
A mural set by Elihu Vedder entering the main room is utterly stunning and sends an important message to all.
