Talk:Motor Oil

 Greetings from the home of Americade,okay, so I live 10 miles South of there, shoot me ! The short & sweet,lived here all my life & riding since '66.. No, not 1866 !! Just bought a new DR-650SE (to keep my '01 ZRX "company"). Dealer was very "wishy-washy" about using synthetic oil in the DR once it's broken in.....something muttered about possible clutch slippage.. I wasn't aware there were ANY modern day cycles that couldn't/can't use synthetic oil ! Am I incorrect in thinking this ?! Cripe, I thought the "bad old days" of clutch slippage were a thing of the past and had been pretty much solved in the late 80's..
  I had an '84 Goldwing that couldn't use synthetic oil,(found out the hard way) but everything since I've been told SHOULD be run on synthetic after break-in.. Now, I'm aware that the DR 650 has Suzukis' "old-tech" air/oil cooled engine that apparently had some cooling and oil consumption issues in certain versions of their sport bikes and super-standards, but does/did this involve the DR650 as well ? I mean,2.4 quarts of ANY kind of oil in something of this displacement,(oil&filter change) isn't much, subsequently what little there is, I want to be the BEST !!
  To date I've been using Mobile-1 MX-4,10/40 in my ZRX with no problems when changed every 2000/2500 miles and I consider myself,(at 59) to be a "conservative 7/10ths" rider.. Yes, I suppose I could use $12.00@ quart oil, but please, someone who knows what they're talking about tell me exactly what the big difference is,(other than price)(gotta' love those oil companies,right??!)between,say Spectro Syn.M/C oil and Mobile MX4 Syn.M/C oil ?? If you don't work for, or aren't affiliated with, a specialty oil manufacturer, convince me why I should change.. I DO NOT torture my bikes,(no wheelies, no stoppies, sorry) but I don't "baby" them either !! Example: just putting the first set of replacement tires on the ZRX as I write, and YES, the old ones ARE worn on the SIDES TOO !!
   Comments ? Theories ? Points of view ? Observations ? Personal experiences ? Criticism ? Tongue lashings ? Etc., Etc.. Sorry if this is long, dragged out, opinionated, etc., you sometimes get that way when you live alone,(poor,poor me !)
