The student becomes the master. I tease Ronen with this Star Wars scene. He’s very much a powerful Jedi.

I met Ronen in about 2013. He was young then. I was younger then. In Fairfax Cyclery and in the parking lot we connected. This kid was different. His early fast time on the Endor flow trail put him on the map. 2:40 is pretty amazing.
Over the years, Ronen has proven over and over how different he is and what he is capable…and he’s still a young man. An engineer and an artist. An athlete and a nerd. It’s difficult to pin him down in any one way but we get to talk a lot about some of our favorite subjects, playing on bikes and engineering.
I really can’t keep up with him on the bikes anymore. For a while, we were driving each other to step up what we could do. I aged out of that and Ronen smartened up. We are lucky that we survived some of that.
We built custom flow trail bikes for the local chainless race (2014) on Endor. The second year (2015) we came out hard again. It was Ronen’s idea to take off the front brake for faster times. That forced me to learn one of the most terrifying skills that I ever had to do, ride fast in the woods with no front brake. I wouldn’t have stepped up that high had it not been for him. That’s happened a few times.
You can see some amazing work on Ronen’s Website. Make sure to check out the two posts about the Telescopes! The knives! The bikes! All of it is crazy.

In the interview, Ronen discusses a habit that older electrical engineers use. It’s called minimizing acid traps. If you want to look like a cool kid, do this.
Doechii was the rapper that I was trying to name. Very cool. She intrigues me, especially her more recent work.
Experts are discussed. Recognize them. It’s important.
What advice would you give to the young? We talk about advice.
“You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” – Matrix. I may have been wrong about the specific reference to Alice in Wonderland but it is associated. Regardless, beware of the red pill…even if seeing the world for what it actually is is what we want to do.
